Regional Development Officer: South West

To Clubs and Membership of the BJA Western Area,
On the 6th of July 2009 I came into post as the Regional Development Officer (RDO) for Judo in the South West of England. Some of you may recall I first relocated to this part of the country back in January 1998 to work as the RDO for judo finishing the remaining two years of a previous officers contract. I have now secured the post for a second term (4 year contract) leading up to the 2012 Olympic Games and beyond.
In the role of RDO for judo in the South West I will be working with colleagues to implement the ‘British Judo Association Development Plan 2009 – 2013’ circulated to all clubs throughout the English Areas.
This is a very exciting time for our sport with funding being provided by Sport England which is going to make a real difference to judo across all levels of participation from grassroots to elite level of performance. The BJA have now assembled a development team which is poised to promote and support our sport working in partnership with a various different stakeholders.
Over the next four years I am pleased to be part of the development team working with you the clubs, backbone of our association, in order to cement a first class community delivery system which will be admired and held up as good practice by other national governing bodies of sport.
In the coming weeks I will endeavour to make contact with all BJA Clubs throughout the Western Area to discuss future plans for our sport, but please do not hesitate in making contact via details below if you require support for any reason at short notice.
In conclusion our sport is Judo, our business is people. Working together we can achieve great things for our sport on the road to London 2012, and share in success of Olympic proportions. Let’s leave a judo legacy we can be proud of from grassroots to elite levels performance.
