The Western Area Closed made a hugely welcome return this weekend at Kingsley School, and it couldn’t have landed on a better note. From the moment the doors opened, the day was packed with energy, smiles, and exactly the kind of positive buzz that reminds everyone why these events matter.
With 86 entries on the mats, the competition showcased the strength and depth of judo right across the region. Clubs from every corner of the Western Area were represented, and by the end of the day 32 Western Area Champions had been crowned – a powerful statement of just how healthy and competitive the grassroots game is right now.
What really stood out was the spread of success. Champions emerged from every county, underlining that this wasn’t about one dominant area, but a collective step forward. Bristol and Devon led the way with seven champions each, closely followed by Cornwall and Somerset, but every result told its own positive story.
On the club front, the atmosphere was one of friendly rivalry and shared celebration. Kingsley School Judo Club and Patchway Judo Clu
